Exeter win at Plymouth!
Exeter Touch Rugby maintained their lead in the South West Touch Rugby League after coming joint first with Truro in the round robin style tournament.
Exeter faced off with six teams from around the region, scoring 36 tries and ending the day with 5 wins and a close fought draw against Cornish rivals Truro.
The shock of the day came when both Exeter and Truro found themselves with exactly the samenumber of points, tries scored and tries conceded in the event placings, leaving them joint first with no way to split the teams. Although the league points were already settled from the rounds, both
Exeter and Truro agreed to an unofficial showcase final to play for their clubs honour.
The final proved as close a match as the days previous encounter and left the teams drawing 1 – 1 at full time. The match entered drop off, a golden try situation where both teams gradually remove players as the match progresses. After several tense minutes and with only four players left on each side of the field Sam Stevens managed to use his pace to run on the outside of his counterpart. Dotting the ball down for the win.
The tournament demonstrated the growing popularity of touch in Devon and Cornwall with both Plymouth and Truro being able to enter multiple teams into the competition.
Exeter would like to thank Plymouth touch for a well organised, exciting and fast paced day of touch rugby, and are looking forward to Round Three hosted by Truro on the 20 th August.
